The Mission has served the homeless and poor, providing food, shelter and recovery since 1962.
Since 1962 the Union Gospel Mission has provided food, clothing, shelter and a life-changing Gospel message to the homeless and the poor of Sacramento. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit Christian organization and operating without tax or government support of any kind, funded entirely by the generous donations of individuals and organizations in the community.
The Mission has grown to serve more than 9,000 meals, sheltering 84 men every night. We offer haircuts, mail service, showers, and spiritual support, continuously. In fact, none of the items, food, and services provided by the mission requires a fee or payment of any kind.
We are open 24/7, 365 days a year with nightly chapel services (twice on Sundays) and volunteer outreach programs give support for those who rarely hear an encouraging word from the Gospel or see the love of Christ.
Our Women's Clothing Closet offers bible study and a huge variety of essential items such as clothing, purses, shoes, and sundries to assist them with their daily needs, help them prepare for work; and for their children.
We are active in the community, supplying food boxes to families who are unable to adequately feed their children, and the elderly who barely make ends meet.
Our 9-month drug and alcohol Rehabilitation Program is free of charge and accommodates 24 men with a Bible structured curriculum. A vocational training and job placement program helps men find new beginnings, restoring dignity to broken lives, and providing hope.
We follow the teaching of Christ, who in Matthew 25:41-45 spoke to his disciples saying “For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in; naked, and you clothed me; I was in prison, and you came to me.” They were puzzled by these words until Jesus explained, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of mine, even the least of them, you did it to me.”
